Social Studies Standards and Matrix

The one-page summaries of standards for each social studies area can be found to the right. As part of the Denver Plan, workgroups of social studies teachers and community partners developed a new matrix of standards and scope and sequence (PDF or Excel).

In compliance with Senate Bill 08-212, also known as the Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids (CAP4K), the Colorado Model Content Standards will be revised and adopted by the Colorado State Board of Education by December 2009. The Colorado Model Content Standards exist for each core academic discipline: civics, dance, economics, geography, history, mathematics, music, physical education, reading and writing, science, theater, visual arts, and world languages. To find out more, visit the Colorado Model Content Standards Review Process page at Colorado Department of Education's Web site.

The current standards can be found on CDE's site using the links below.

In collaboration with the early childhood education (ECE) community and the Colorado Commission of Higher Education, we are also seeking broad input from the community to better understand how the community perceives the descriptions of 21st century skills, school readiness, post-secondary readiness, and workforce readiness. CDE welcomes your feedback and comments at standards_eeview_com@cde.state.co.us.
