I have served Denver Public Schools since 2000, most recently as an English teacher and humanities facilitator at South High School. Coming aboard as the new EXCELerator district coach at the end of February 2008, I am excited by the opportunity the Gates Foundation-sponsored College Board, EXCELerator School grant presents for Lincoln, North, South, and Thomas Jefferson High Schools. The three-year grant is aimed at creating a “college-ready culture” by expanding Advanced Placement course offerings and enrollment for our underrepresented students in these schools. Components such as the College Board SpringBoard English and Math curricula, AVID, AP-Potential, and expanded services provided by the counseling departments are all aligned toward meeting this goal. It is my hope that together we can develop and sustain a shared process to make this a reality for all of our students.
