In my role as elementary social studies coordinator, I work to support the implementation of new social studies curriculum through the lens of meeting the specific needs of diverse learners, kindergarten–grade 5. The new elementary social studies curriculum provides a powerful structure for rich classroom instruction.  It is characterized by eight features: theory-based active instruction, standards-based content, preview assignments, multiple intelligences teaching strategies, considerate text, graphically organized reading notes, processing assignments, and multiple intelligence assessments.
