Who Needs a Mentor?

All new-to-DPS teachers and student service providers must have a mentor assigned to them.

  • Novice teachers
  • Experienced educators from out of state or other districts—Any new-to-district educator who holds a current Colorado professional license may opt out of the mentoring component with principal approval by submitting the Mentor Component Waiver to the Induction office.
  • Counselors, nurses, psychologists, and other student service providers—Contact department supervisors, as they can often make these assignments with current qualified staff.

Principals should submit the following documents to the Induction office.

How to Use

Mentor Assignment Log (Word)

Use this form to report mentor assignments to the Induction manager.

Information and updates are shared through the mentor distribution list, which is comprised of all mentor assignment logs.

The form also allows the Induction office to process mentor stipends on time.

Mentor Component Waiver (Word)

Use this form to approve a mentor waiver for any new-to-district educators who hold a current Colorado professional license.

Document this decision on the Mentor Assignment Form by writing "Mentor Component Waiver" under the "Mentor" column for educators who choose this option.
