Algebra 2 Instructional Planning Guide

Discovering Advanced Algebra, DPS' Algebra 2 program, engages students as they tackle challenging topics. The program uses data analysis to model pure-algebra concepts, derive equations, solve problems, and build skills in a hands-on, investigative approach, which improves learning in many ways:

  • Real data, real-life situations, and real-world applications motives students to show them the importance of what they are learning.
  • Investigations, visual representations, and discussion opportunities integrate multiple teaching modes so visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners all benefit.
  • The diverse teaching approach strengthens students’ understanding and retention of advanced algebra concepts and skills.
  • The program piques students' interest by presenting important content in the context of history, art, and careers.
  • Activities require students to develop and practice skills, such as multiplying and factoring polynomials and solving many kinds of equations in a wide variety of mathematical settings.
  • Technology is incorporated to customize your curriculum with a range of options, such as graphing calculators, Texas Instruments' Calculator-Based Ranger (CBR) or Calculator-Based Laboratory (CBL), Geometer's Sketchpad, and Fathom Dynamic Data.

The Algebra 2 instructional planning guides were created through a collaboration of educational professionals from all aspects of mathematics curriculum development and delivery. Given the mobility rate of students, all planning guides 1) provide consistent instruction across the district and 2) set target dates that guide teachers in providing key mathematical experiences at each grade level. All instructional planning guides are in Acrobat PDF format, unless otherwise noted.

The instructional planning guide includes:
