Objectives

  • To provide a structured and sequential physical education curriculum.
  • To use standards-based assessments that emphasize individual student progress.
  • To stress the positive relationship between physical activity and health and increase participation in and derive enjoyment from lifetime physical activities.
  • To maximize the time students spend being physically active in class and engaging them in activities that are inclusive and accessible to all participants, regardless of initial fitness level or physical activity.
  • To teach management skills and self-discipline.
  • To provide instruction focused on the process of learning skills rather than the product or outcome of skill development.
  • To emphasize cooperation and responsibility and help students develop sensitivity to diversity and gender issues.
  • To develop a positive self-image through relevant physical education experiences.
  • To acquire safety skills when working with equipment and when working independently or in groups.
