District Science Fair
New for 2008–2009 School Year!
- Important Information for Students and Families (PDF or Word)
- The DPS Science Fair will be held January 24, 2009, from 8:00 a.m.–noon at the Denver Zoo (free admission to participants and their families), so our sixth through twelfth grade winners can compete in the Denver Metro Science Fair, which will be held February 25–26, 2009. Winners from grades 6 through 12 from the Denver metropolitan area then qualify to attend the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair held in Fort Collins, April 10–12, 2009. Seventh through twelfth grade winners at the state level are then qualified to move to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
- All students/teams, kindergarten–grade 12, can enter their schools' science fairs.
Each school can send one class, team, or individual representative for K–3. K–3 entries will not be judged, rather awarded participation certificates. The school representatives will showcase their science projects and receive judges' feedback, but will not be part of the judged science competition.
For judging, each school can send one class, team, or individual representative from each grade 4 and 5 (two total).
For judging, each school can send two team or individual representatives in the school from each grade 6–12.
For example, a K–8 school can send one (class, team, or individual) representing kindergarten through grade 3, one from each grade 4 and 5, two (team or individual representatives) from each grade 6, 7, and 8, for a total of nine representatives from that school.
- All students/teams, grades 6–12, can enter the Denver Metro Science Fair on their own.
Note: Schools should submit the names of class, team, or individual representatives using the School Registration Form (PDF or Word) to enter the district science fair.

Help for School Science Fairs
Let Community Resources, Inc. take the work out of running your school’s science fair! Prior to your science fair, CRI provides in-class student workshops to help students understand the scientific method and help them design interesting and appropriate experiments. Also available is an evening session for parents and teachers that explains the scientific method and gives ideas on how to help students with their projects. Science Expo Student Guides and Teacher/Parent Guides are provided. Your school receives a limited supply of display board and a timeline with suggested completion dates for the various stages of the students’ projects. The day of the science fair event, CRI provides judges from the community, judging rubrics and score sheets, and participation ribbons, as well first-, second- and third-place ribbons. CRI staff sets up and facilitates your fair. The cost of the event is $500–$1,500, depending on the size of the school and number of participants. For more information, call Community Resources Inc. at 303-782-0975 or email debbie@communityresourcesinc.org.
