| Alice Summer Program | Middle and high school mathematics and science teachers | Middle school: High School: July 7–11 |
Sponsored by the Colorado School of Mines to introduce teachers to Alice, a programming environment that enables novice programmers to create three-dimensional virtual worlds. Alice enables math students to use concepts of ratio and proportion, measurement, volume, and area to manipulate the program. Science concepts, especially those of motion, acceleration, velocity, and projectiles are easily illustrated with Alice. The primary purpose of the project is to improve secondary students’ and teachers’ content knowledge of mathematics and science as part of a program for increasing the number of highly qualified teachers. Participating teachers receive an honorarium and credit from Colorado School of Mines. |

Crime and police dramas are popular entertainment. Now the field of forensic science can be brought directly to your classroom with this new plant-based program that introduces students to forensic botany. Your students can see how plants are helping investigators solve crimes in real life through this growing branch of forensic science. The PSI program gives students the opportunity to use the techniques of forensic botany to help solve a crime. Students will:
