Welcome to the Secondary Literacy Program

The Secondary Literacy Program supports reading and writing development of middle and high school students in Denver Public Schools. The program consists of two initiatives: the Studio Course and the Secondary Teaching and Learning Project.

The Studio Course is a 90-minute block that gives students instruction and practice in reading, writing, and critical thinking.

The Teaching and Learning Project is a three-year project that aims to accelerate student achievement by ensuring that, districtwide, students experience rich content, rigorous expectations, and comprehensive learning opportunities in the redesigned courses of Introduction to Literature and Composition and American Literature.

The Web site offers support and resources for teachers, coaches, and administrators on instructional practices for reading and writing, literacy assessments, professional development opportunities, and general information and resources for the Secondary Literacy Program.
