Welcome to the English/Language Arts Teaching and Learning Project

The English/Language Arts Teaching & Learning Project, launched in October 2004, brings together English/language arts teacher leaders representing every DPS high school to study research-based reform in our discipline. The goal is to redesign high school English courses to align with current thinking on best practices, and in doing so, close the achievement gap between better and poorer performing students and provide better opportunities for all students to achieve growth in English courses.

Design English courses that: Design new course architectures for:
  • Have high expectations for teaching and learning
  • Improve the academic performance of all students
  • Close the achievement gap between higher- and lower-performing students
  • Introduction to Literature and Composition  I and II
  • American Literature I and II
