History Colloquium

This excellent opportunity
is FREE to DPS secondary US History teachers! Network with other
district colleagues during a three-day colloquium packed with exciting
ideas, units, and free materials for teaching US history. The
colloquium will focus on content and instructional strategies aimed at
making your course more engaging to students. The colloquium, will
touch on topics as diverse as slave revolts, Lewis and Clark, to the Cold
War as a vehicle for discussing and exploring what works well in the classroom.
This colloquium will last three days, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Teachers will receive free materials and curricular
strategies and ideas you can implement in your classroom. Participating
in the colloquium will also be a rare opportunity to network and collaborate
with colleagues in the district as well as from your own building. In
addition, by participating in the colloquium you will automatically become
a member of NCHE, a $30 value that includes:
- a subscription
to their newsletter, This opportunity is available to any secondary
US History teacher.
- receive a free
copy of all NCHE Occasional Papers as they are published
- be entitled to
member discounts on NCHE publications and meetings
- copy of the classic
"Building A History Curriculum: Guidelines for Teaching History

NCHE's "U.S. History guidelines Building a United States History

NCHE's elementary school guidelines "Building a History-Centered

How to Participate/Register
The colloquium is free of charge to DPS secondary US history teachers.
There are only 36 spaces available, so register ASAP to ensure a reservation.

please type the address manually or copy and paste it into a new message.
Substitutes
Release time for teachers attending the colloquium will be paid for by
the TAH grant (i.e. we will pay for the subs). After you
have registered for the colloquium with the social studies coordinator,
have your school secretary get you a substitute for three days
by emailing anne_messerli@dpsk12.org
to get a substitute account number. Ms. Messerli will then
fax your school secretary a form which she must fill out and return to
Ms. Messerli. There are only 36 spots available in each colloquium,
and seats will be reserved on a first-come, first served-basis. To
ensure you reserve a spot, please register ASAP by emailing the social
studies coordinator at: Gilberto_munoz@dpsk12.org
