Teaching and Learning Project
Redesigned
US History curriculum is now online!
You will have to login using the same username and password that you use
to login to your computer at school.
The T&L Project
in social studies will continue in 2005-2006, but professional development
institutes will now be tailored by content area and offered to teachers
of that particular content. This year, we will continue with T&L institutes
in US History, and will begin the redesign process for Civics and Geography
through the work of the design workgroups as outlined in the Denver Strategic
Plan. Please
read/download the Denver Strategic Plan at: http://thedenverplan.dpsk12.org/
and refer to pages 14-15 for the social studies timeline (note: there
is a typo regarding the middle school social studies. US History will
remain at the 8th grade level only). The following are the distinct workgroups
we have recruited teachers for:
Social Studies Program
Advisory Workgroup ECE-12
Elementary School ECE-2 Advisory and Design Workgroup
Elementary School Grades 3-5 Advisory and Design Workgroup
Middle School Social Studies Grades 6-7 Advisory and Design Workgroup
Middle School Grade 8 US History Advisory and Design Workgroup
High School Civics Advisory and Design Workgroup
High School Geography Advisory and Design Workgroup
High School US History Design Workgroup (will refine the pacing
and planning guides, current assessments and rubrics based on the feedback
we've collected from the field).
For more specific plans regarding each of the grade levels and content
areas, please check back soon.

Overview/Description
of Project
The Teaching &
Learning Project is the district's first attempt at providing content-based
professional development for its teachers. In the social studies,
we will begin with US History. Many of you have been very actively
involved in the many opportunities that have been presented on this web
site and elsewhere. Now, the district will be more actively supporting
teacher professional development with a concerted and thoughtful initiative.
The institutes
will provide teachers with opportunities to network with other district
colleagues while being engaged in exciting ideas, units, and free materials
for teaching US history. The institutes will focus on content
and instructional strategies aimed at making your course more engaging
to students. The first institute in February focused on the Boston
Massacre and the Constitution as a vehicle for discussing and exploring
the habits of thinking students need to develop in order to be able to
think historically.
Substitutes: Release time for the institute (one day)
will be paid for by the TAH grant (i.e. Curriculum will pay for the subs).
When requesting substitutes, please email Linda Brown at linda_y_brown@dpsk12.org,
and she will send you the appropriate form with the account number.

of the project, including the rationale and the scope/action plan, please
