US History Student Growth Objectives

Sample Objectives for High School Classroom Teachers of US History

The expected growth is the amount of measurable student growth defined by the objective. The teacher and the teacher’s evaluator collaborate on the amount of expected growth written into the objective by taking into account base-line performance, student profiles, and End of Unit Assessments and End of Semester 1 Assessment (Unit 6).

It is expected that 100% of students will show growth during the year. Teachers may set objectives for students that reflect reasonable but high expectations for specific gains, such as, “85% of students will gain at least one proficiency level.” However it is expected that the students not included in these objectives will still show progress on gaining the skills and learning the Big Ideas in the course.

The following objectives are examples of the different types of targeted objectives teachers might set. Teachers will enter their objectives at http://my.dpsk12.org/objectives/default.aspx by the end of the first quarter.

All Students
  • 100% of the students will show growth during the year on the skills and Big Ideas in U.S. History.

  • 85 % of the students will show a gain of at least one proficiency level from the pre-assessment to the End of Semester 1 Assessment (Unit 6).
  • 85% of the students will demonstrate proficiency on the skill of “interpretation of primary sources” as measured by the Unit 4 Assessment and/or using alternative sources of evidence.
