I have 17 years of experience teaching business and marketing at the high school level in Denver Public Schools. I started at the Career Education Center, then went to George Washington High School for 15 years. In 2006, I earned the National Board Teacher Certification in Career and Technical Education for Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood.
While at GWHS, I served as department chair for 10 years, advised the FBLA chapter for five years, and taught a variety of business courses. One of my favorite courses to teach is Future Choices because of the variety of topics and the natural emphasis on academics. In 2003, I presented information at the National ACTE Conference related to Future Choices.
Throughout my career, I have been active at the district level, developing curriculum for a variety of courses, serving five years on the team for the New CTE Teacher Induction Program, and participating in several academic integration initiatives, including Linking Languages and Learning and Math-in-CTE.
I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in business and a major in marketing. After a few years in the business world, I returned to school and earned a master’s degree in vocational education from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins.
In my role as the CTE academic integration specialist, I work with a variety of projects including Math-in-CTE, New Teacher Induction Program, CTSO students and advisers, Middle School Report Card indicators, Best Practices Conference, and professional development for CTE teachers.
